Wood Shed
Wood sheds have a warmth to them that other sheds often lack. Wood not only smells good but it blends into outdoor landscapes and seems to be in better harmony with nature around it than metal sheds or vinyl sheds. Depending on how you paint or stain your wooden shed, it can have the look of a miniature house, which can be very charming and add a nice ambiance to your outdoor area. I guess the term rustic, can be used to describe a shed built purposely with old weathered barn wood. This weathered look has become more and more popular over the last few years.
A wood shed is the most common type of shed. And wood is the most conventional material used for building sheds. Whether you are building a garden shed, tool shed or other outdoor storage shed, wood is a very common material choice.
If you choose to paint your shed, there are so many variations to choose from. Depending on the color and whether or not you add shutters and window boxes, your shed can look like a little country cottage - very quaint. An outdoor potting bench with terra cotta pots and wild flowers can add even more country charm to your shed.
One problem that wood sheds may encounter is termites. Termites, are like ants and can come in as an army and eat away at the foundation of your shed. If this problem goes on without attention, eventually your whole shed could collapse. So keep an eye on that and talk to your local pesticide retailer for prevention and solutions.
The second problem that wood sheds may encounter is wood rot. If your shed is properly painted, stained or finished in some other way, wood rot is less likely. Also, if your shed has water in it, from a garden hose or a buckets or even a tap - be sure that these wet areas are dried out after use. Rot can bring fungi and this in turn can cause mold and can be a health hazard to some people.
In spite of these potential problems, wood sheds have an charm that surpasses other building materials and a little preventative maintenance can go a long way to ensure a long and beautiful life for your shed.
Be creative - why have a boring looking shed when you can customize the colors and look to compliment your yard and landscape.
